Obchodník se smrtí
Hlavní postava překupníka zbraní v podání Nicolase Cage, jenž prakticky z plátna nesleze, je údajně složena z pěti reálných bosů ve zbrojním průmyslu a stejně tak i jednotlivé scény našly inspiraci v situacích, které se skutečně staly. Orlov je ukrajinský emigrant, který se se svojí rodinou usídlil v USA. S běžnými Ukrajinci emigrovala i ruská mafie, a tak se díky kontaktům brzy vypracuje do pozice důležitého překupníka. Tento přechod je přesto příliš rychlý, stejně jako většina ostatních změn postojů či názorů postav, obzvlášť Orlovovy manželky (Bridget Moynahan- Já, robot, Válka světů), vysněné krásky z dětsví, nedostatečně vykreslený a nevěrohodný, ale je to pouze jeden z mála minusů celého snímku. Ono takové prokreslení by totiž mohlo působit trochu tíživě a musíme si uvědomit, že se nejedná o drama, ale spíše o akční záležitost. Nicméně odbít „vznik“ takového obchodníka, který se svojí prací nepřímo podílí na zabití tisíců lidí, pouze jednu scénou s aha efektem: „super obchodem se zbraněmi bych se mohl uživit“, to je trochu málo.
Yuri Orlov: Základní podmínkou obchodu se zbraněmi je nenechat se zabít vlastním zbožím.
Svoji kritikou určité části světového obchodu by Obchodník se smrtí mohl evokovat podobnost se Syrianou (odkaz na recenzi), která se zabývala ropným průmyslem. Narozdíl od ní ale neprobírá celý problém nijak komplexně a snímkem projdem pouze skrz Yuriho postavu a celý film je o dost zábavnější. Kdybych měl Obchodníka k něčemu přirovnat, tak bych asi šáhl buď po Scorseseho Mafiánech či Leoneho Tenkrát na západě s hodně sestřihanou dějovou linkou a bez zaměření na dětská léta hrdiny. Na rozdíl od těchto mistrovských počinů projdeme Obchodníkem jako nůž máslem bez jakýchkoliv zádrhelů. Děj se tak dá odhadnout hodně dopředu. Naštěstí žánrový spletenec akčního snímku, thrilleru a černé komedie dělá z filmu pestrou záležitost.
Sympatický antihrdina Yuri Orlov vás nejen pobaví, ale i donutí zamyslet se nad obludností a zvráceností masového zbrojení.
